Michal Ajvaz (30 ottobre 1949, Praga) è uno scrittore, poeta e traduttore ceco, esponente dello stile letterario conosciuto come realismo magico. Nato in una famiglia di esuli russi, Ajvaz ha studiato ceco ed estetica allUniversità Carolina di Praga. Ha cominciato la sua attività di scrittore solo nel 1989 (durante il periodo comunista ha esercitato i mestieri più vari) dedicandosi alla stesura di opere poetiche e narrative, nonché di saggi filosofici. Dal 2003 lavora al Centro per gli studi teoretici all’Accademia delle scienze ceca. Al suo romanzo Prázdné ulice (Strade Vuote) è stato assegnato il Premio Jaroslav Seifert per il successo letterario (2005), mentre il libro Il giardino del Lussemburgo ha vinto il premio per il miglior libro della Repubblica Ceca Magnesia litera nel 2012/is a writer , poet and translator of Czech , a member of the literary style known as magical realism .
